1.0       Introduction

Kenyatta University through its Division of Research, Innovation and Outreach provides its students, other students enrolled in institutions of higher learning within and outside Kenya, individual researchers and organizations the environment and opportunity to apply to collect data in pursuance of either their masters, doctoral degree or research projects/endeavours.

2.0   Seeking Permission to collect research data within Kenyatta University

2.1   Internal Applicants

All internal applicants seeking authority to carry out research within Kenyatta University must write to the Vice-Chancellor through the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Innovation and Outreach. Applicants who are students (postgraduates) are to ensure that they have the letter of approval of research proposal from Graduate School while undergraduate students should have a support letter from the Dean or Head of Department. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students are to fill the RIO 2a (research data collection form) and include it together with the other request documents. Members of staff are advised to process their request through the DVC-RIO after completing RIO 2b (research data collection form). Applicants are advised to attach a research permit and letter of authorization to carry out research from the National Commission for Science, Technology & Innovation (NACOSTI). It is a Government requirement for anyone carrying out research in the country to seek authority from NACOSTI (i.e. Masters, PhD or Individual Projects).

2.2    External Applicants

All other applicants who are not students or staff of Kenyatta University but are enrolled or employed by organizations within Kenya shall apply to the Vice-Chancellor through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Outreach after completing RIO 2a (to be filled by students) and RIO 2b (to be filled by researchers/organization). The RIO form is to besubmitted together with the cover letter and research documents as listed on it.
